Hope Island Tavern has for more than 20 years been a much-cherished gathering spot for the local community, offering a variety of dining options, drinks, and entertainment.
Opened in 2003, our Tavern is nestled in the heart of Hope Island, a 40-minute drive south of Brisbane, we’ve just re-opened after an extensive renovation to be your new go-to on the Gold Coast.
Located on the northern end of the Gold Coast, Hope Island is known for its canals, golf courses and luxury waterfront homes. Locals love the area for walking and bike tracks, and visitors will love exploring the area with frequent stops at the many quality cafes scattered throughout the suburb.
Hope Island was named by Captain James Cook, who visited the region during his exploratory voyages in the late 1700s. Cook, while charting the coastline, named many places along Queensland’s coast. It’s likely that Hope Island’s name relates to the sense of hope it provided for sailors navigating the dangerous waters of the region.
Today, Hope Island is known as a leisure destination and popular spot for boating, fishing, and outdoor activities.
Our hotel was built in the days Hope Island was beginning to develop its tourism offerings and many people were attracted to the area. On our wall isa photo on the wall of the hotel when it was very new.
After a renovation we re-opened late 2024 which saw a general refresh, a new beer garden and a new outdoor bar.
Hope Island Tavern today is where sunny days and good vibes come together in perfect harmony. Relax and soak up the atmosphere. Kick back in our new sprawling beer garden with a drink and a bite, maybe a schnitzel, a parmi or a steak.

We have a Gaming Room and giant screens which broadcast five different sports including NRL, tennis and cricket. We have RAB and Keno facilities.
We are located opposite the Hope Island Marketplace in a great part of the Gold Coast. Hope Island is known for its mesmerising landscapes, wildlife, its world-class golf courses and as a paradise for nature lovers.
